The Royal Dutch Numismatic Society was founded in 1892 in Amsterdam. In 1899 it was granted the title “Royal” by H.M. Queen Wilhelmina. The Society supports and promotes anyone who is involved in coins, medals, paper money and related numismatic objects either as a professional or as an amateur. This is done by organising meetings, promoting exhibitions and supporting local numismatic clubs (Bijeenkomsten/Foto’s).
The Society publishes a Year book (jaarboekvoormuntenpenningkunde.nl) with important scientific contributions. The Society also publishes the bimonthly magazine De Beeldenaar together with the Dutch Art Medal Society (De Beeldenaar). It contains informative articles and short popular scientific contributions that cover the whole spectrum of coinage, medals and paper money from the 7th century BC until today.
